We’re nearing the end of the year, which means everyone is gearing up to get in shape in 2024. That might have been your goal to start 2023 as well. You might have even started strong.

But chances are, you fizzled out around April or May, and never really got back on track.

But this time, you don’t wanna fizzle out. This time, you want to dedicate 2024 to getting in the best shape of your life, and STAYING there.

If that’s you, here’s 7 things to AVOID, heading into the new year, to ensure you hit your health goals:

  1. Skipping Warm-ups:

Prioritize a dynamic warm-up to increase blood flow, flexibility, and muscle activation. Incorporate exercises like leg swings, arm circles, and bodyweight squats for 5-10 minutes. It prepares your body for the workout ahead, reducing the risk of injury and enhancing overall performance.

  2. overlooking strength training:

Include resistance training in your routine 2-3 times a week. It boosts metabolism, preserves lean muscle mass, and contributes to a sculpted physique. Utilize compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, and bench presses for maximum impact.

  3. neglecting your nutrition:

Elevate your fitness journey by understanding the profound impact of nutrition. Focus on a balanced diet rich in whole foods, emphasizing lean proteins, whole grains, and colorful fruits and vegetables. Consider consulting a nutritionist to tailor a plan that aligns with your fitness goals and enhances your overall well-being.

  4. neglecting your sleep:

Prioritize quality sleep for muscle recovery and overall health. Aim for 7-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Establish a bedtime routine, limit screen time before bed, and create a comfortable sleep environment.

  5. Neglecting Your Recovery:

Recognize the importance of rest days. Overtraining can lead to fatigue, decreased performance, and an increased risk of injury. Incorporate active recovery days, engaging in light activities like walking or yoga to promote healing and rejuvenation.

  6. Over Reliance On Cardio:

While cardio is vital, balance is key. Integrate a mix of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and steady-state cardio with strength training for a comprehensive approach. This combination maximizes calorie burn and enhances cardiovascular health.

  7. Setting Unrealistic Goals: :

Establish SMART goals—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This ensures your objectives are realistic and attainable, fostering a sense of accomplishment and motivation throughout your fitness journey. If you try to lose 100lbs in 3 months, you’re probably gonna be disappointed.

Zoom out & enjoy the process of being healthier, over chasing an arbitrary outcome.

When Deidra started working with us, she was doing ALL of these things. Primarily, over reliance on cardio & neglecting her nutrition. So when we started working together, we had her TRAIN less, but implement strength training, and eat MORE.

And she dropped 30lbs over 90 days.

So that’s it. Avoid these 7 things, and you’ll be well on your way to getting in the best shape of your life in 2024.
